As generations continue to merge into the working marketplace, many business leaders find that there are many challenges. We find ourselves trying to understand and manage generational friction, differing career expectations, differing workplace environment expectations and differing communication styles and expectations. At times, there may be frustration with other generations to which we either verbally or mentally state “they need to get with the program”! Another way of saying this might be, “they need to just learn to do things the way that I do them”. When we do that, we begin to limit how the company grows and how multi generational teams can be effective.
